Call me “old-fashioned," but I’m seeing more and more agents in Athens using AI to automate selling homes. And while I appreciate what technology can do, there's just some things AI should never replace.

Like what happens when you call a business.

An actual person should answer the phone. Not a bot asking you to "listen to the menu options, as they may have changed, so they can direct your call." 😉

At least, that's what I think.

Which is why I’m making this PSA: when you call (256) 874-4947, you won’t get a bot. You’ll get me. A real person, ready to pick up the phone and help.

Because in a world moving more and more towards automation and advancing technology, I believe some things should stay the same. Like talking to an actual person when you call a business.

STOP your scroll! Me and Spidey need your help! ️

I've got 4 serious buyers actively searching for a home in the Rogersville/Athens area. Here's what they're looking for:

1. This family loves to entertain and needs room for it! They would love a home with an open kitchen, oversized island, and big dining/entertaining space, plus a backyard built for hosting because their house is THE gathering house. 1+ acre preferred, pool is a major plus. Budget is 500-800k if it's the right home!

2. This buyer is searching for a 3-4 bedroom home with at least 2 full bath or more, but their most specific request is a grand front porch. Would love a little land and close to Athens, but open to different areas. Budget is in the 300-500k range.

3. This family is looking for a home that has two true primary suites OR separate living quarters. Kitchenette, private entrance, or finished basement would be AMAZING. No HOA. This is 2 families trying to combine households, something with a mother n law suite or garage apartment would be great!

4. Buyer is in need of a 4 bedroom home with the primary suite on the first floor, plus a detached shop/garage with power and room to park a boat. Budget negotiable =)

A large coffee at your fave place probaly costs around $5. Meanwhile, the median price of a home in the United States is around four hundred thousand dollars right now.

That means if you skipped one coffee per day, you could save up enough cash to buy your dream house in....just over two hundred and nineteen years.

This is why I think it's pretty dumb advice to tell people to skip out on simple luxuries to save for a house. The math just doesn't add up.

It's better to focus on the BIG things in your budget (car payment, always paying your credit card, student loans) than to worry too much about buying a coffee.

Sometimes the little things in life are what keep us sane, so we can have the discipline to make responsible decisions on the big things!

So, I stopped by my newest listing and the homeowner needed help cleaning up before listing photos. I really enjoy helping others, but it got me thinking because it seems more people today have the attitude "that's not my job." Like when it comes to returning the grocery cart, watching out for your elderly neighbor, picking up litter on the sidewalk, or holding the door for a stranger.

Taking ownership, responsibility, and action is not ordinary. It takes minutes of your time and is probably an inconvenience.

It's not the easy route.

But when we say "that's not my job," we are really saying "we don't care." And that attitude has many real consequences.

If you've traveled around the world or visited some big cities here in our country, you will notice the ripple effects of the "that's not my job" attitude.

This is why I love Alabama.

There's a culture here of, "that's my job." It's in our DNA. We don't shirk responsibility, we embrace it.

We believe what Benjamin Franklin said, that "only a virtuous people can be capable of freedom."

Athens can't issue decrees and make this culture happen. It's entirely up to individuals - you and me, to take ownership and action in the little opportunities of our work, churches, and daily life.

I'm very thankful to live, work, and enjoy the benefits of the "that's my job" culture of Athens.

I hope you are too!
