The 2026 Thriving College Student Index shows that students who are thriving are far more likely to maintain healthy daily routines — including sleep, nutrition, movement, and time outdoors — than students who are struggling.

Thursday, January 22nd was Day — a reminder that asking one simple question can open the door to real connection and support.

In that spirit, the College Student Mental Wellness Advocacy Coalition’s 2026 Thriving College Student Index is now live. Based on responses from more than 11,000 college students nationwide, this year’s findings show what truly makes a difference in student mental wellness — from daily habits to social connection to the environments around students.

56% of students are thriving; 29% are maintaining; 14% are struggling
60% report feeling tired/exhausted; 49% feel stressed; 43% experience anxiety
45% have been diagnosed with a mental health condition, yet only 55% have ever received treatment

Karla Miller has been appointed director of Career Development Services at AAMU. Miller, who most recently served as director of Residential Life and Housing, returns to career development with a deep understanding of student needs and institutional operations developed through more than a decade of service to the University.
