🎪 Madison Street Festival — Saturday in historic downtown Madison

🎻 Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention — continuing through Saturday in Athens

🍁 Fall for All — Saturday at Big Spring Park in Huntsville

🛹 Snake Run & Ride Challenge — Sunday at Get-A-Way Skatepark

The Madison Street Festival is always a fun one because downtown Madison really feels like a small town for the day — parade, vendors, food, music and people everywhere.

Okay, now that October is actually here… 🍂

What's your favorite thing about fall in North Alabama?

Maybe it's football, Monte Sano, festivals, sitting outside somewhere for dinner, getting away to the mountains, or just opening the windows at home when we finally get one of those perfect days.

🎻 Here's a North Alabama tradition that's been around a lot longer than most of us.

The Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention starts Wednesday at Athens State University and runs through Saturday.

Even if bluegrass and old-time music aren't normally your thing, this is one of those events that feels very North Alabama — musicians, competitions, food, crafts and people coming into Athens from all over.

Wednesday evening is also a free preview night, which makes it pretty easy to go see what it's all about.

I like that we're close enough to so many different communities that a night in Athens can feel completely different from a night in downtown Huntsville.

Here's another one to watch on the Limestone County side of Huntsville.

The City of Huntsville has now approved annexation of about 236 acres known as LeCroix Farms, south of Huntsville Brownsferry Road and west of Greenbrier Parkway.

The City says single-family homes are planned for the property. If you live in East Limestone or West Huntsville, this is another project worth keeping an eye on.

🚧 If you commute to Redstone Arsenal, this is a project worth knowing about.

Huntsville just received a $10.8 million federal grant to help fund the first phase of Resolute Way — a new road planned to connect I-565 directly toward Gate 9 at Redstone Arsenal.

The goal is pretty straightforward: improve traffic flow around Gate 9, Madison Boulevard and the Research Park Boulevard interchange.

And if you've driven through there at rush hour, you probably understand why. 😊

The City says more than 100,000 vehicles travel through this area each day.

This doesn't mean the road opens next month — there's still design and construction ahead — but securing the federal funding is an important step forward.

For all the attention Huntsville gets for job growth, projects like this matter too. More people and employers eventually mean the roads have to keep up.

🧘 Yoga in the Outfield at Toyota Field — Saturday morning | free

🌎 International Festival of North Alabama at The Orion — Saturday afternoon | free

🎶 Music on the Mountain at Burritt — Sunday afternoon

And with fall officially here, this is about the time of year when getting outside in North Alabama starts sounding a whole lot better. 😊

❤️ This is a pretty great reason to go out to eat tonight.

The first Taste of Madison is happening tonight at Toyota Field from 6–9 p.m.

You'll be able to sample food from restaurants around Madison and the surrounding area, but the part we really like is where the money is going.

Proceeds benefit Miracle League of Madison, which is working to build an accessible baseball field at Palmer Park so children of all abilities can play.

So basically:
Good food.
Local restaurants.
And a really good cause.

That's a pretty easy combination to support.

🚀 Here's another space-related story we'll be watching.

Alabama's congressional delegation is pushing for North Alabama to become the home of the proposed U.S. Space Academy.

Their argument is pretty straightforward: Huntsville already has NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, Redstone Arsenal, U.S. Space Command, the Missile Defense Agency and a huge aerospace and defense workforce.

One important point, though:

The Academy has NOT been awarded to Huntsville.

A permanent location hasn't been selected yet. Alabama leaders are making the case for North Alabama as that process develops.

Still, considering everything already happening here in space and defense, it's certainly an interesting possibility.

We'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Real estate question: Should you have your HVAC serviced before winter if everything seems to be working fine?

Our answer: We think it's a pretty good idea!

North Alabama doesn't exactly ease gently into every season. 😂 We can go from running the air conditioner to needing heat surprisingly quickly.

A fall HVAC check gives you a chance to catch something small before the first really cold night when everybody else discovers their heat isn't working either.

While you're at it, it's also a good time to:

✔️ Change the filter if it's due
✔️ Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
✔️ Check weather stripping around exterior doors
✔️ Make sure outdoor faucets and hoses are in good shape before freezing weather eventually arrives

Nothing glamorous — just a few things that can make homeownership a little less exciting in the wrong way.

⚾ How about those Trash Pandas?!

They're coming home to Toyota Field one win away from their first Southern League Championship!

Rocket City won Game 1 in Biloxi last night 5–4, which means they can win the championship right here in Madison Tuesday night.

And what a turnaround this has been. A year after finishing with the worst record in Minor League Baseball, they're now one victory away from a championship.

Game 2 is Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. at Toyota Field.

This should be a fun one. 😊 Who's going?
