Three local health centers are turning one Saturday afternoon into a community wellness stop.

Thrive Alabama, HAPPI Health and Central North Alabama Health Services are hosting a Community Fun & Wellness Block Party on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 4-7 p.m. at Butler Green Park at Campus 805. Thrive Alabama lists free admission, food, fun and health resources.

One Huntsville community deadline is almost here.

The Huntsville Police Department is accepting applications for its Fall 2026 Citizens Police Academy through Friday, Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. The City says the nine-week program runs Sept. 15-Nov. 17, with Tuesday evening classes covering the people, training and teamwork behind daily police operations.

One small August home-care task: check your HVAC filter.

ENERGY STAR recommends checking the filter every month during
heavy-use seasons and changing it when it looks dirty-at minimum, every three months. A dirty filter can restrict airflow and make the system work harder.

Big news for Town Madison: the City has approved plans for the MADiSON Letters, a 6.5-foot-tall, 30-foot-wide sculpture going in just off Stadium Way, across from J. Alexander's and right next to Toyota Field.

Here's the fun part, the lowercase "i" is set back two feet, so you can actually step inside the sign and become the "i" in Madison for photos. It's built entirely on private funding through Madison Visionary Partners and the Chamber of Commerce, so no cost to city taxpayers.

The letters will debut with a patriotic design for America's 250th, then get repainted on a rotating basis by local artists chosen through the Madison Arts Alliance, meaning this isn't a one-and-done installation, it's meant to keep evolving with the creative community here.

A groundbreaking date is expected to be announced in August, with completion anticipated this fall, so details could still shift a bit. But it's a good preview of where Town Madison is headed.
