We have several current unmet needs in the shelter. If you would like to help us out by donating items or funds toward these items it would be greatly appreciated! This is a great opportunity for your office, church group, or civic group to help others by simply picking up an “extra” of something you already buy yourself and sharing with those in need. Items can be dropped off or shipped directly to the shelter at New Futures, 3419 Venona Ave NW, Huntsville, AL 35810.

1.) Twin and full sheets (new or gently used)
2.) Blankets, comforters, duvets (new or gently used)
3.) Towels and washcloths (new or gently used)
4.) Kleenex
5.) Razors (men and women)- we will accept any health and beauty supplies
6.) Toilet Paper
7.) Brooms and dust pans
8.) Disinfectant Wipes
9.) Lysol Spray
10.) Floor Cleaner- we will happily accept any cleaning supplies

Huntsville is growing, and as such, our mission becomes even more important to those around us. We look forward to visiting our neighbors in Jackson County this coming weekend to share about what New Futures does and offer some fun craft options for the kids who visit with us. (Donations accepted on site.) If you are looking for something to do this weekend, consider coming over to visit this really unique event full of great art, food, entertainment, and inspiration.

Just thought I would share a quick update of progress over at New Stone Commons. You can see they are doing a great job in these new photos, compared to the previous shots we had shared. Since these aerial photos were collected, the walls for the second story have even been started. It’s so amazing to know that this time next year 42 apartments will be available in our community that offer affordable housing without the barriers keeping so many that we work with homeless today.

What a fun night…It’s not everyday we get to dress up in our “roaring 20’s” cocktail dresses and go share about the impact we are making in the community. New Futures was so honored to get to speak at the Toasting with Tallulah event that raises funds for the Women’s Philanthropy Society Grant.

As one of last year’s grant winners, we were able to hire additional staff that gave us the capacity to triple the size of our transitional housing program in the last nine months, offering homes to families who had previously been living in hotels or otherwise homeless. Guests at the event got to hear about one of the unique features of the program, using a Housing Navigator with lived experience. Carla Pierre, our Housing Navigator, shared her personal story of how lived experience made homeless to homeowner a reality for her family.

We are grateful for the opportunity this grant gave us to grow. We hope the work we are doing has proven the value of this program in our community and that more people will join in supporting us in the future. We believe there are more “Carla’s” out there just waiting for someone to walk along side them.

We encourage everyone to take a moment today to thank your favorite nonprofits. We are blessed in our community to have wonderful partner agencies who support the work we do. New Futures focuses on providing shelter and the case management needed to advocate for and get folks connected to the other resources. Thanks to all who support our efforts!
