The best move for those struggling with debt is to contact their creditors directly and try to work out a plan early, before multiple missed payments reduce their options. You should try to get interest rates cut, waive fees or even trim the amount owed. Creditors are generally more receptive these days to negotiating payments than they were in the past, since they are eager to collect what they can.
