The Twin Towers from Battery Park City landfill beach that remained like this until 1983. Left over building material after the construction of the World Trade Center was placed here, covered with sand, however it was never intended for public use.

With the Twin Towers as backdrop, the makeshift beach would later become Battery Park City. Artists used the site to showcase sculptures and other creations, dancers choreographed their routines in the sand, even concerts were held here. Many New Yorkers hopped the fences to play volleyball, exercise or simply relax.

Many will believe this photograph to be AI but there are several other photographs of New Yorkers enjoying this landfill beach while living in a city as bustling as the Big Apple. Many people have also shared their experiences of how much they enjoyed this location while it was available.
