This is excellent advice if you are planning to build your own home!
Okay but if you’re building a house…don’t make these mistakes 😅
Here’s 10 things I wish I knew before we started:
1. You need WAY more outlets than you think
Like…everywhere. Closets, pantry, outside, eaves, floor, ceilings. I promise you won’t regret it.
2. Design your house for your actual life…
Where are the shoes going? The backpacks? Where do you charge your phone? Think through your daily routine and write it down.
3. Make your pantry and storage bigger than you think
A clean house is good storage and organization.
4. Measure EVERYTHING…twice, and maybe one more time. Things look way bigger or smaller on paper than they actually are. I’m a very visual person so I had to tape everything out ☺️
5. Don’t cheap out on insulation!!!!!
This affects your bills, comfort, AND noise. It matters more than you think.
6. Lighting…Add more lighting than you think you need! Under cabinets, in hallways, closets, outside. It completely changes how your house feels.
7. Your kitchen needs to FUNCTION, not just look good
Drawers > cabinets. I love drawers because cabinets everything gets pushed to the back and you forget you have it. You want your trash near prep, we put ours in the island. Enough space between island and cabinets, we did 5ft and can pass by with doors open.
8. Think about the future, kids getting older, resale, even just getting older yourself. Plan ahead, you never know what might come up.
9. Take pictures of EVERYTHING before drywall
You will need them later. Trust me. Thankfully we documented it all 😂
10. Something WILL go wrong so have extra money set aside so you don’t lose your mind when it does.
Did I forget something?😅
