Every lightning strike⚡️was basically a paparazzi shot of the tornado and Mother Nature’s wrath.

Moving from Kansas 10 years ago, my family drove right into an F-3 tornado outside Hays, Kansas.

I wasn’t worried about the gusts of wind until the rain, the hail, that started to pounding the windshield. It hit without warning, slowing travel to 35 mph in an instant. I was convinced it would break the windshiled. After my experience with violent weather, I knew my family could be in real danger.

As the lightening striked the Plains, I was able to capture picture bursts of the storm.📸 Then my worst fears were realized. We were driving directly into the tornado’s wrath in all it terrifying and amazing glory. Those winds can reach 156-206 mph. 🌪️

My husband and I tried to talk calmly about our safety plan, so we wouldn’t scare the kids more than they were already. In 3 seconds, my mind processed all the worst scenarios that could happen. It was a terrifying moment. 😱

Thankfully we were able to make it to Hays before the tornado intersected the interstate. We were safe in the hotel and didn’t need to go to the shelter.

My family and I had a front seat to the awesome power of Mother Nature in the dark. We we lucky to witness it at a safe distance. Oh, what adventures we have had!
