Uruguay produces more top soccer players/capita than any nation at 11.3, then Croatia 4.81, Netherlands 4.58, and Argentina 3.82. After accounting for GDP based on PPP, Europe but especially LatAm massively outperforms. Partly it’s because Europe/LatAm have been playing soccer longer than others. LatAm so outperforms because they generally excel at no other team sports, and LatAm was quickly urbanizing when soccer arrived (1910-1920). Climate may help.

With the 2026 World Cup already underway, Spain is favored. They’re defending European champs and BetMGM has them at +450, meaning a $100 bet will get you $450 profit plus the initial $100 (17.5% chance of winning according to Kalshi). France follows at +500 (16.4%), England at +700 (10.8%), Portugal at +800 (11%), and Argentina/Brazil both at +900 (9%). The USA at +5000 (1.6%) is a longshot.

Using Walmart grocery prices as a benchmark, the most expensive grocery store is Whole Foods, it’s 39.4% more expensive. Vons is 26.6% more costly, Albertson’s is 24.8% higher, Publix 20.3%, Kroger 14.8%, Meijer 9.9%, Safeway 8.8%, and Target 5.9%. The most affordable, Costco where groceries are 21.4% cheaper. Next BJ’s at -21%, Lidl at -8.5%, Aldi’s at -8.3%, WinCo is at -3.3% and H-E-B is 0.3% cheaper.

Both the condo and single-family home markets remain favorable for buyers, with inventory levels sitting at 12 months for condos and 8 months for single-family homes. While active listings are slightly lower than this time last year, pending sales and recent closings have increased across both segments, showing that buyers are still finding opportunities and sellers are still getting deals done when priced correctly.

Weekend Fun Fact:
This week, Shrey Parikh beat Ishaan Gupta in a lightening-round 90-second spell-off tiebreaker, a format introduced in 2022, to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Shrey spelled 32 words correctly, Ishaan only 25. The spell-off is the only time the competitors get the same words. Spell-off words included cywyddau, taurokathapsia, tessaraconter, rapakivi, uayeb, and melengket. The winning word was bromocriptine. Shrey won $52,500 and prizes. Thaumaston!
