The news has sensationalized the threat to Tahoe, where “By Friday, no homes or other structures had burned as the fire continued to travel through less-populated areas”. The Chronicle does a nice job of relaying the facts. Rural communities where the fire began far southwest of Tahoe were impacted the most with many structures burned. The South Lake Tahoe evacuations are in place to allow firefighters and emergency crews to work the fire without crowds of people. They have kept the fire to the south and are steering it east towards the desert and Tamarack burn where the fire runs out of fuel. Much of the fire has already burned through or been extinguished. Weather conditions have improved and the fire is being contained, so far Tahoe communities have been spared and firefighters are optimistic. Air quality is terrible near the fire, all more the reason to stay away, even though we’ve had some days with blue skies north on the Lake.
