Today we said goodbye to our oldest friend, Bob. Bob was 103 1/2 years old. He was a big deal to all the neighbors as a WWII vet., Lt Col Robert “Bob” Clark (Air Force ret).

You may remember him from the street parades we held on our street for his birthday. The parades were quite a sight. High school marching bands, VFW posts, corvette clubs, jeep clubs, motorcycle clubs, PAFB honor guard, several law enforcement agencies (IPD, MPD, BCSO, and more), IFD and BCFR fire departments, and even guest appearances from Sheriff Ivey, several city mayors, Doug Flutie, Astronaut Winston Scott, and so many more.

It was great to see how all the neighborhood came together for all of the parades and it was just an awesome experience in Bob’s honor. We held street parades for Bob on his 101st, 102nd, and 103rd birthdays. He was excited and appreciative for each one.

Unfortunately we will not have a 104th.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated this man’s birthdays. Every year he would say how he couldn’t believe so many people joined in.

We will miss seeing him ride his bike each morning down the street heading to Publix where he would pick up things for the neighbors. We will miss seeing him at the local gym. Yes, at 103 he was doing these things.

I, personally, will miss the small conversations we had when he would ride his bike past the house and he would stop so we could talk. He was just so personable and friendly.

For now Bob will be remembered as our neighborhood celebrity.

Rosa and I had a margarita in your honor this evening and toasted you and the Mrs. We hope you are enjoying meeting up again and are watching over all of us.

R.I.P Bob. You’ve earned those wings.
