⚠️ This Old Wiring Can Be a Fire Hazard
During a recent home inspection, I found active knob-and-tube wiring in both the attic and basement.
Knob-and-tube wiring was commonly installed in homes decades ago. While it may still be operational, it is considered an outdated wiring method and is a fire hazard due to aging insulation, improper modifications, overloaded circuits, and the lack of a grounding conductor.
Many homeowners don’t realize this type of wiring is still active until a home inspection reveals it.
This is a great reminder that a home inspection isn’t just about finding defects—it’s about identifying potential safety concerns before they become bigger problems.
