An Indiana University student accused of violently ra**ng and confining a woman inside a dorm room after an IU football game will reportedly avoid prison time through a plea deal.
According to FOX59/CBS4 reporter Max Lewis, 20-year-old Gregory Gabler was originally charged with two counts of r**e and one count of criminal confinement stemming from an alleged September 2024 assault at IU Bloomington.
Court allegations stated the woman met Gabler during an IU football game before later going to his dorm room. Investigators say she told police Gabler was heavily intoxicated and became violent once inside the room.
According to the probable cause details referenced in reporting, the woman alleged Gabler bit her repeatedly, r**ed her, and told her she was “never leaving” while allegedly restraining her from leaving the room.
Under the plea agreement, the r**e charges are expected to be dismissed while Gabler pleads guilty to criminal confinement, a Level 5 felony under Indiana law.
Criminal confinement involves knowingly restraining or confining another person without consent and is considered a lesser included offense related to kidnapping-type allegations in many cases.
The plea agreement reportedly gives Gabler a six-year sentence, but all six years would be suspended, meaning he would not serve prison time. Instead, he would be placed on probation in his home state of Florida and ordered to complete 200 hours of community service.
The case is now generating outrage online, with many questioning how allegations this serious could end without any prison time attached to the final conviction.
