The sticker price of a new construction home isn’t always the final price. There are often a few additional things that come after closing like blinds, landscaping, a fence, patio or deck, appliance upgrades, or a water softener.
None of these are bad surprises — they’re just things many people don’t realize when they start the building process.

One of the biggest things to think about when building is your everyday lifestyle. Little things like where you drop your shoes and bags, how often you host people, or even spaces for pets can really impact how your home functions day to day.

When you’re building, you get the opportunity to design a home around how you actually live, not just how it looks.

No one really tells you how many decisions come with building. From cabinets and flooring to lighting, hardware, and paint colors — there are a lot of details to choose!
Something else I learned is that every builder is different. Some offer lots of customization, while others have more limited selections or design packages.
We had a really positive experience building our home and loved being able to personalize it along the way.

It’s officially our 1 year house anniversary 🏡✨ so I thought it would be fun to share a few things I wish I knew before building a house.

Day 1: The Timeline

Even when everything goes really smoothly, there are a lot of moving parts during a build. Weather, inspections, and materials can all shift things a little.
We had a really positive experience building our home, but patience definitely helps during the process!
