Fair warning —some of my pre-listing requests are going to sound a little extra. Take down your family photos? Move the furniture around and put dad’s recliner in storage? Yes, really. 😅
But here’s the thing: the way you live in a home and the way you sell a home are two completely different things. And the small stuff? It matters more than most people expect... especially online!
These are some of what I might ask of you:
1. Get a “just throw it in there” basket for every room
Not because I want your house empty, but because every day clutter adds up FAST.
2. Pack up most of your stuff
Like… way more than you think you need to. The goal is for buyers to emotionally connect with the home, and that’s a lot easier when the space feels clean, open, and simplified.
3. Get a storage unit if necessary
Yes, seriously.
4. Put away your lovely
family photos
Buyers connect more easily to a home when they can picture their own life and memories there.
5. Remove worn or loud area rugs & heavy curtains
A lot of rugs can actually make rooms feel smaller and break up the flow of the space. And when it comes to curtains, natural light sells homes. Need I say more?
6. Rearrange your furniture
Sometimes, the way you live in a home isn’t the best way to market it. Even removing one chair or shifting a sofa can make a room feel bigger, brighter, and photograph much better online.
7. And my personal favorite:
pretend you don’t live there for a few weeks 😅
Because homes that feel clean, bright, open, and emotionally inviting almost always sell faster (and for more money).
Do any of these sound familiar?
