On this date: March 24th, 1930. Marine veteran Terrence Stephen "Steve" McQueen is born in Beech Grove, Indiana. Before becoming πππ πππ£π π€π πΎπ€π€π‘ in movies and film, McQueen enlisted in the Marines in 1947 and was assigned as a tank mechanic. His difficult upbringing reflected in his early service - he was demoted to private seven times, and once served a 41-day stint in the brig - but he eventually grew more accustomed to USMC life. He was responsible for saving the lives of five Marines from a tank before it broke through the ice and sank during an exercise, and he was later assigned to POTUS Harry Truman's presidential yacht detail. McQueen was honorably discharged in 1950, and always spoke favorably of his time in the Marines during interviews.
