The first day of fall is tomorrow, September 22nd!π Here is a checklist for you, family, and friends to utilize for this fall season.
1. Clean your gutters! Clogged gutters can freeze and lead to damage your roof and foundation.
2. Test your thermostat, itβs better now than when the weather is cold!
3. Test your smoke, carbon monoxide, and fire detectors. With Thanksgiving and other holiday cooking this raises risk. Get this easy step out of the way to safely prepare.
4. Rake and dispose of leaves in your yard. Damp leaves can stay damp for a while and keep the soil next to the foundation wet. Constant moisture can contribute to mold and mildew.
5. Check for drafts! An easy way to test this, is lighting a match around window seals and doorways. Donβt let cold air in!
6. Trims branches away from your house, power lines, and other buildings located on the property. Wind and cold weather can freeze and snap off branches, leading to property damage.
7. Change your fans direction! Clockwise pushes warm air back down. An easy step that tends to be forgotten.
8. Replace weather stripping. Numbers show that close to 35% of your homes heat can escape through air leakage
