🌧️ TIP TUESDAY: Help Keep Rain OUT of Your Basement!
We’ve had a TON of rain, and it doesn’t look like it’s letting up anytime soon! With the ground already soaked, a few checks now can help reduce the risk of a wet basement. 🏡
🍂 Check your gutters. Clogged gutters can spill water right next to your foundation. Have leaves and debris cleared when conditions are safe.
💧 Direct downspouts away from your home. Make sure extensions are attached and carry water away from the foundation, not into a spot where it flows right back.
🔌 Check your sump pump. Test it according to the manufacturer’s instructions, make sure the discharge line is clear, and check your battery backup if you have one.
🪟 Check basement window wells. Remove leaves and debris, keep drains clear, and check that covers are secure and in good condition.
🏡 Look for pooling water. Soil should slope away from your house. Puddles against the foundation can signal a drainage issue that needs attention.
👀 Don’t ignore new damp spots. Water stains, seepage, or leaking cracks deserve a closer look. If water keeps coming in, have a qualified drainage or foundation professional identify the cause.
📦 Bonus: Move valuables, electronics, and cardboard boxes off the basement floor.
⚠️ Already flooded? Stay out if water could be in contact with electrical outlets, cords, or equipment.
