From Homelessness to Financial Empowerment! IHO is celebrating our incredible Aspire residents who completed the IHO + First Bank “Bank On” program! Through this 6-week coaching series, residents built real relationships with First Bank mentors who guided them through banking basics, savings strategies, life planning—and so much more. These weren’t just lessons… they were life-changing conversations.
The results for our residents are powerful - they:
➡️ Opened their first-ever bank accounts
➡️ Built emergency savings
➡️ Saved enough to buy their first car
➡️ Gained lifelong mentors and confidence
This is what happens when opportunity meets support.

At The Aspire, we don’t just provide housing—we invest in the futures of transitional age youth. Thank you to First Bank Community Development Officer Juliet Patino.

Be part of the conversation! Registration is open for IHO’s It Starts With Housing Summer Symposium. The event “Missing Middle, Land Trusts, & Social Housing” will explore housing models that promote economic diversity and community ownership. As housing costs continue to rise, renters face a shrinking pool of options between single-family homes and high-rise apartments. Mixed-income and social housing offers crucial solutions by providing affordable, well-designed rental homes in walkable neighborhoods.

We are thrilled to introduce the speakers for IHO’s November 12 It Starts with Housing Luncheon and Symposium. Be there to hear from this high-level panel of leaders from diverse industries who will discuss California’s housing crisis and possible solutions. Our esteemed speakers include: Wallace Walrod, Chief Economic Advisor, Southern California Association of Governments (S**G); Efrain Escobedo, President & CEO, Nonprofit Management Center; Jenna Hornstock, Hon AIA, Vice President for Strategy and External Affairs, Eleos Ventures: along with moderator Rochelle Mills, President & CEO, IHO.

As we know there has been no progress in solving California’s housing crisis despite strong support from voters and intense efforts from stakeholder groups. This lack of progress has left many disillusioned.

IHO’s event, “It Starts with Housing,” invites an in-depth discussion on finding comprehensive and collaborative solutions. Registration in the link.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the opening of Pacific Wind - IHO’s new affordable housing community in City of Carlsbad. We are thankful to so many amazing partners, including our development partner C&C DEVELOPMENT CO., LLC and Carlsbad city leadership who helped bring this community to fruition. IHO Board Chair Brandon McCall said it best when commenting on the value of these new homes adding, “I want to thank the residents and acknowledge them. This is truly for them and I want to lift their voices and say that everyone deserves a safe, quality, affordable home. And that’s what we’re here to provide. So I want thank them.” We’ll be sharing more from this event - stay tuned.
