According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), more than 30% of deaths involving teen drivers occur during the 100 days between Memorial Day to Labor Day. For every mile driven, new teen drivers (ages 16-17) are three times more likely to be involved in a deadly crash compared to adults. Data collected from 2011 to 2020 reveals that each year an average of 2,063 teen drivers are involved in fatal crashes; 642 of those (31%) occurred during the 100 deadliest days. Data also shows that more than 7,124 people died in teen-related summertime crashes. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office would like the public to stay vigilant when behind the wheel. Please be cautious of new drivers and pay attention to the road.
