Stewardship: the responsible overseeing and protection of something considered worth caring for and preserving.
As citizens of a town, city, county and country, we often have expectations of how these areas are overseen and cared for. We passionately expect leaders and visitors to be good stewards of our communities. We should expect the same of OURSELVES.
Building on that, this applies to HOME OWNERSHIP. It is our duty and the right thing to do to be good stewards of our homes. Not only for our families that dwell in them currently but for those who may call that house their home in the future. It is in good character and mindfulness that when we sell our homes that we have done and continue to do our best to hand over a home in a condition and manner of care that we would want someone to hand over a home to ourselves and our families. I realize this isn't all encompassing as some homes are sold in varying conditions for varying reasons. Nonetheless, my point is, while it is very taxing to be a homeowner at times, it is important that we set aside time, money and energy to maintain those systems and components of our homes, maintain the roof, make the needed repairs as we go, service your HVAC regularly etc... It's tempting to skip over things. because spending that money on leisure is certainly more appealing in the short term. However, a house not properly maintained during ownership, will result in substantially bigger struggle and distress in the future, especially when selling. Even if you live in your house for the rest of your lifetime, if there is lack of proper care and maintenance, then you have handed that issue to not only your family, but the next homeowner.
Spend the money, time and energy into the care of your home. I promise it is worth it.
