Hello all!
Spring is here, and if you are looking to list your home, let's spend some time freshening up your space before listing!
Beginning with your bedroom...
Your bedroom might not be the first room on your list when you think of renovating or decorating, especially if you’re a new homeowner or are decorating your home with rising costs in mind. It’s not seen often by guests, but it is where we spend a large portion of life. Bedroom features that are intentional don’t just offer beauty; they can help you get a better night’s sleep—something that’s definitely worth considering if you’re already reworking other rooms. But how do you bring your vision to life when you’re decorating on a budget?
As always, I am happy to offer my help on all things real estate related. Or, if you know someone who would benefit from my services, please do not hesitate to reach out here.
From incorporating more color to creating organization among the chaos there are ways you can make it happen with a few budget-friendly bedroom makeover tips. Consider what you’d be comfortable handing yourself, and you can get creative with DIY projects to make your bedroom swoon-worthy.
1. Add an accent wall
For the cost of a can of paint and some rollers, you can reimagine your bedroom into a bold bo***ir or a serene sanctuary. If you need bedroom paint color ideas, try browsing swatches at your local hardware store and taking some samples home to test on your walls. Or, you can get inspiration online and save your favorites. Stick with neutrals for a spa-like calm or muted tones to add depth. Whether you’re more of a charcoal gray or eggshell person, avoid trends and choose shades that you won’t be sick of by next season.
You could choose two contrasting colors to make an accent wall – or for even more budget protection, stick with your original wall color and just update one wall to create the accent. For bolder prints or incorporating texture, consider wallpapering one wall or even just the ceiling if it has a smooth surface. It can be just enough to pop without overwhelming the entire room with a pattern.
2. Consider lighting
Lighting can be an overlooked feature during a bedroom makeover, but getting it right is essential to how our eye picks up on the colors, shapes, and textures around us. It’s also a good idea to look at lighting when redecorating your bedroom to consider your sleep quality. Windows are a perfect source of natural light. But at night, you want to be able to make sure your room is dark – the lack of light will help you fall and stay asleep. Think about looking for deals on new shades, blinds, or curtains. It’s a great way to work in color and provide the day-to-night transition you need. Plus, when you have a barrier in front of glass in colder weather, it can help keep the heat from escaping your house and lower your energy bills.
Another way to work with light in your bedroom is with your fixtures. Whether you’re drawn to a sleek, modern fixture or a statement piece, this one change can make a huge difference. If you’re comfortable taking on the installation of new bedroom lights yourself, switching out a lighting fixture can typically be done without an electrician and can save you money. While you’re installing your new fixture, you can switch out the bulbs for energy-saving or LED lights. If you own the home you’re redecorating, it’s worth looking into because they protect every major system and more.
3. Get creative with color
Paint and wallpaper aren’t the only ways to freshen up the color palette in your bedroom. If you’re happy with your wall color or aren’t up for watching paint dry, mix things up in other parts of the room. Get a new bed set, comforter, or throws to easily incorporate color. Curtains or blinds, area rugs, and lamps are all small areas where new color can feel like a big transformation. Your bedroom is one of the most intimate places in your home. To make it feel like it’s personalized to you, incorporate color by trying DIY bedroom wall art. Reclaimed textiles can become affordable wall hangings, while old branches and dried flowers can add a whimsical feel.
4. Shop furniture strategically
If you’re thinking of buying a new bedroom set or switching out a dresser, there are tons of ways to save. Looking for a project? Thrift an older wood table or chest and refinish it for an updated vintage look. If sanding isn’t your thing, you can still get new furniture at a good price if you have a strategy. When it comes to buying furniture, some months are better for buyers than others. Typically, there are two ideal times to buy indoor furniture each year: at the end of winter and the end of summer.
5. Use tech to save year-round
One of the best cost-saving DIY tips for a bedroom makeover doesn’t involve getting your hands dirty at all. The ideal bedroom environment goes beyond paint and furniture. No matter how zen your bedroom looks, if it doesn’t feel zen, it might be hard to sleep. Experts stress the importance of temperature. If the temperature isn’t right when you get to bed, you might not be resting as well as you could. That’s where smart technology can help you. From controlling lights to recording video at the front door, there’s a lot that different smart devices can help you do at home. Plus, they often go on sale during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
One of the best ways to take advantage of this technology is to upgrade your thermostat. A smart thermostat can help you schedule your heating and cooling around your day, reducing energy waste and costs. With a smart thermostat, you can set your home for a certain temperature for when you’re away and schedule it to warm up or cool down right before you get back. These devices can sense movement, adjust based on outside temperatures, and help you track your usage in real-time.
