A mortgage for a $400,000 house will now cost $650 more per month than a year ago as interest rates are now 5.5% versus 2.75%. With scheduled interest rate hikes coming this year, it’s going to become a lot more expensive to buy a house.
I might also add that the housing prices will likely increase another 25% this year. You can barely find a $400,000 home anymore in any area that you'd want to live. Those who sat on the fence last year are definitely going to be paying much more now and it'll only continue.
And don't think prices will come down anytime soon.
They won't.
It's time for those who can to encourage or even help their adult children buy their first homes before they are completely priced out.
