10 VALUABLE things you NEED to know as a homeowner:

1. Make 1 extra payment a year = can cut 7ā€“8 years off your mortgage and save you thousands in interest

2. Round up your payment (even small amounts go straight to principal and add up fast)

3. Your payment can increase (taxes + insurance change, even if your rate doesnā€™t)

4. Shop insurance every year (you could be overpaying without realizing)

5. File your homestead exemption (can save you thousands on property taxes)

6. First payment usually isnā€™t due for ~60 days (but after that, itā€™s monthly)

7. Change your AC filter every 60 days (prevents bigger, expensive issues)

8. Know where your water shutoff is (can save you in an emergency)

9. Ignore the spam mail after closing (most of it is not legit)
