September is Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month. Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF) is a type of interstitial lung disease that causes scarring and thickening of the tissue around the air sacs in the lungs. This makes it harder for oxygen to get into the bloodstream. Symptoms of PF include shortness of breath and a dry cough. PF can be caused by a number of things including exposure to toxins that includes inhaling hazardous materials like asbestos, silica, coal dust, wood dust, or metal dust. This can happen in environments such as your home or work.
It is extremely important for those who work with/around hazardous material to wear PPE.
