It's one of those things your lender might bring up, and you nod along to — but now you actually know what it means. 😄

Discount Points are fees paid upfront at closing — typically used with FHA and VA loans — that allow you to buy down your interest rate. One point equals one percent of your loan amount, paid on top of the standard origination fee.

Here's why this matters: paying a little more upfront in points can lower your monthly mortgage payment for the life of the loan. Depending on how long you plan to stay in the home, it can be a really smart financial move.
