You don’t have to plan a huge trip to give the kids a really good fall weekend. 🍂

One of our favorite things about this part of Kentucky is that you can spend a morning exploring, find something the kids will genuinely think is cool, and still have plenty of time to come back to the cabins and just hang out.

And with kids, we’ve learned that’s usually the sweet spot. 😂 One adventure for the day, plenty of room to play, and no itinerary that requires everyone to be in the car from breakfast until dinner.

So whether they’re feeding trout, hiking to a lake overlook, racing go-karts or earning another Junior Ranger badge, there’s plenty to build a weekend around.

Consider your fall weekend planned. 🍂

Lake Cumberland doesn’t need a packed itinerary to make a really good weekend.

🌲 Arrive Friday, grab dinner and spend the night around the fire.

🌲 Get outside Saturday morning while the weather is cool, then choose between a few more hours on the lake or exploring around Jamestown.

🌲 Come back for pickleball, the sauna, dinner and another night outside.

🌲 Take Sunday morning slow before squeezing in one last stop on your way home.

That’s it. A little time outside, a little time together and absolutely no need to schedule every hour of the weekend.

Summer gets most of the attention around Lake Cumberland, but don’t pack away your weekend plans just yet. 🍂

September and October bring cooler mornings, fewer summer crowds and the kind of weather that makes you want to spend the whole day outside.

Bring the boat. Leave it at home. Either way works.

There’s still plenty of Lake Cumberland to enjoy, but there’s also something pretty great about having nowhere you need to be. Let the kids hit the playground, challenge somebody to pickleball, warm up in the sauna and end the night around the fire.

If you’ve always thought of Lake Cumberland as a summer-only trip, consider this your sign to come back this fall.
