🌄 A Rare Piece of Jemez History:
Horseshoe Springs is more than a location—it’s a legacy. Originally developed in 1953 by the U.S. Forest Service, these summer home sites were nestled into the Jemez Mountains just northwest of Jemez Springs. Permits were offered for $25 a year (plus a few dollars for road maintenance!), and cabins like this one were built as weekend escapes.
Over the years, Horseshoe Springs grew into a small, passionate community. Electricity arrived in 1954, and a shared water system was developed and incorporated in 1959—drawing from the historic Horseshoe Spring itself. In the 1990s, a dedicated group of cabin owners spearheaded a major land exchange with the Forest Service, giving homeowners the opportunity to own the land beneath their cabins for the first time. After nearly six years of effort, the deal closed in 1998, officially transforming Horseshoe Springs into a private mountain neighborhood.
Today, there are just 50 cabins in the area—many still held by original families—making listings like this a rare opportunity.
📜 If walls could talk, this one would tell stories of forest picnics, and campfire nights.
