AFTER ALL THE HATE, SOPHIE CUNNINGHAM KEEPS MOVING FORWARD

Sophie Cunningham has been through plenty of controversy.

She has been criticized, attacked online, argued about across social media, and pulled into cultural debates that went far beyond basketball. People have disagreed with things she has said, things she has done, and positions associated with her.

But Sophie Cunningham didn’t disappear.

She didn’t crawl into a corner.

She kept moving.

And now she’s stepping into another lane with “No Hesitation,” her podcast with NBA skills trainer Drew Hanlen.

And the name fits her perfectly.

NO HESITATION.

That’s Sophie Cunningham.

She talks. She jokes. She competes. She has fun. And whether people agree with everything she says or not, she doesn’t seem interested in allowing the latest social-media controversy to define everything she does.

HE THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE.

Zohran Mamdani is finding something out the hard way:

NEW YORK CITY AIN’T ONE BIG POLITICAL BUBBLE.

You can be popular with young progressives, affluent liberals, activists, influencers, and people who already agree with you.

Then you walk into another neighborhood and find out real quick:

EVERYBODY AIN’T BUYING WHAT YOU’RE SELLING.

That Borough Park visit was the perfect example.

Mamdani walked into a Jewish neighborhood looking for what appeared to be another smooth political moment.

Smile. Cameras. Handshakes. Photo op.

Then somebody called him on his bu****it RIGHT TO HIS FACE.

Now the script ain't working.

And that's becoming the bigger problem for Mamdani.

All this stuff sounded beautiful during the campaign.

FREE BUSES!

FREE CHILDCARE!

RENT FREEZE!

CITY-OWNED GROCERY STORES!

TAX THE RICH!

Everything was FREE, FREE, FREE.

Mamdani was selling New York City like he had discovered a magical ATM where nobody ever had to pay the bill.

But governing ain't campaigning.

You don't get applause just because you announce something. People eventually want to know:

WHERE ARE THE RESULTS?

A rent freeze doesn't suddenly make New York affordable.

A childcare rollout doesn't magically solve the cost-of-living crisis.

A campaign promise about free buses doesn't mean New Yorkers wake up tomorrow riding everywhere for nothing.

And yelling “TAX THE RICH!” doesn't answer what happens if the tax base starts looking for the exit.

Meanwhile, Mamdani can talk tough about ICE all day long, but federal immigration enforcement doesn't disappear because City Hall doesn't like it.

That's the difference between a campaign slogan and REALITY.

And now Mamdani is discovering something else:

MANHATTAN ISN'T QUEENS.
QUEENS ISN'T STATEN ISLAND.
BOROUGH PARK ISN'T A PROGRESSIVE RALLY.
AND NEW YORK CITY ISN'T X.

Different neighborhoods have different politics, different priorities and different opinions of their mayor.

That's democracy.

You don't get to walk around expecting every neighborhood to clap because your social-media operation says you're popular.

Sometimes you walk through the door expecting applause and somebody tells you EXACTLY what they think.

That's when the political fairy tale meets the sidewalk.

The cameras are still rolling.

The slogans are still flying.

But that shiny new-car smell is wearing off FAST.

IS MAMDANI FINDING OUT THAT RUNNING NEW YORK CITY IS A WHOLE LOT HARDER THAN CAMPAIGNING FOR IT?
