Visited a site yesterday that we designed and installed 5 years ago. A massive neighboring ailanthus tree had finally been taken down by the neighbor earlier this year and now there's far more sun and far less privacy.
Time to rethink some plantings!

The Challenges of Urban Spaces
We don't always get to choose our 'view' or even the 'walls' of our spaces. In our city you can not paint/ rehab a wall that does not belong to you. Even if that wall is 'in' your space. You can build a fence or screening in front of it, but then you loose precious inches of width from an often already narrow space. Plant tall plants? Well that can work but only if you have enough space for those plants to grow (even narrow plants needs space). And of course all of those options cost money. So sometimes you are left with that wall. In that case, one choice can be to lean into it. Consider including it in the design rather than trying hide it.

Custom built-in seating can elevate a small space and really help to maximize a limit foot print. But first you must decide if you are willing to limit convertibility and the convertible and multi-functionality.
