The reason I joined the real estate industry wasn’t to harass people, be pushy or act like a vulture seeking prey (the next deal). I joined this industry to serve my clients well and work hard to represent them. I truly care about and love helping people.
When I bought my first home, I had an agent that was in the deal for herself. She wasn’t looking out for me. She was looking out for herself. She referred me to her “favorite” lender. She made it seem like this guy was going to help me get a good rate. I didn’t realize that 3 months after closing my mortgage would increase $700 plus per month. Every 3 months it seemed there was another increase in my mortgage. This increase was way outside of my budget and within 1 year, I was foreclosing on my first home. I felt like a failure and had to find another place for my daughter and I to live. My credit was destroyed and it took many many years to recover from that BAD AGENT and BAD decision. Even the closing attorney (at the closing table) was asking me was I sure about this loan and home purchase. She tried to give me some advice.

I was so naive and excited to get my first house that I didn’t want to walk away from the deal at the table. I learned a hard lesson and I said, “If I ever become a real estate agent, I will always represent my clients well.”

I’m a real estate agent that has my client's back whether you're a buyer or a seller. Agents have what's known as a "fiduciary" responsibility to their clients. I’m legally obligated to put my clients' best interests first and I promise to do just that.

I wasn’t going to post this but was thinking about the cost of being an entrepreneur and being your own boss. This is Roberto our painter. He was referred to us by a family friend. He painted our old house and we called him to paint our new house. I loved his worked and decided to give him a call.

He showed up ready to work. He was on time. He worked for 4 hours, took an hour lunch break and worked 4 more hours. He did this for 5 days straight. He didn’t cut corners. He paid attention to detail. I didn’t have to watch him to make sure he was doing a good job. He worked while I worked. I was so impressed with how he made sure he did it right and wasn’t trying to cut corners. Some areas we couldn’t see, but he could and he made sure it was done right. He is an entrepreneur. He represented his business and his brand well. He made sure the customer was satisfied.

I learned some lessons while I watched him. He was patient. He was thorough. He was on time everyday. He made sure what he did was done right. He did what was right even when the customer wasn’t looking. He took a break to rest. Another painter was suppose to help him paint but he couldn’t come. He didn’t make an excuse. He came and painted because he gave me his word.

The last day, I could see he was very tired. I said, “you look really tired”. He said yeah, “I’m tired but I’m not finished”. He doesn’t know I took this picture. He doesn’t even know that I’m making this post. His work ethic was stellar and needed to be shared.

Entrepreneurs, work is not always easy but it’s necessary to build your brand. We are living in a world that everyone wants to be their own boss. Everyone wants to have a business. Everyone wants the glory. This my friend made me realize that being an entrepreneur is work. No matter what kind of business you have, represent your brand well. Do what is right when you don’t know the customer is looking.
