Those that know me know that I like flying flags and have a massive yard arm (certain kind of flag pole) down by our dock.

Around Christmas I convert the yard arm into a giant lit cross that I leave up until the end of Epiphany every year.

It’s not that I’m overly religious and could certainly stand to go to church more often but it’s more a tradition started by my father over 30 years ago.

I like to think people enjoy it and it’s my way of honoring and remembering my dad every Christmas.

As an added bonus, it also allows everyone to have a good laugh and call me Clark Griswold.

It’s throw back Thursday.

Growing up this was the only hardware store on the island.

Long before the current True Value we had Kogers Hardware located on River Road not far from the entrance to Stonoview.

Kogers Hardware was your typical small town hardware store that had knowledge help and everything from farming supplies to hard to find fasteners.

I believe it opened before my time so I don’t know a lot of the history so feel free to add what you know in the comments below.

What a beautiful afternoon in the Lowcountry. It never gets old! We are fortunate to live where we do.

Throw back Thursday.

Who remembers St. Johns Cafe?

The current location of Simply Seafood was the original location for this wonderful Johns Island
restaurant.

Later, the restaurant bought and renovated a location down the street that was a high school friend of mines home.

That location went on to be The Fat Hen (which deserves a future posts of its own) and today is home to Minero.

The St. Johns Burger was incredible and David’s deserts were the absolute best!

St. Johns Cafe was a staple on the island for years back in a time when the island really didn’t have any dining options. Times have certainly changed!

Throw back Thursday!

For those that don’t know I married my high school girlfriend!

This is us before we were even dating. Melanie is 15 and I’m 17. We were best friends for a few years before dating.

Fast forward and we both went to Clemson, dated forever and have now been married for 23 years with 3 wonderful boys, two labs, and 2 cats!

What a ride so far!

Happy fun fact Friday.

Did you know that where Builders First Source is located used to be Ohlandts Piggly Wiggly and Ohlandts Red and White before that.

It moved in the late eighties when the present location of KJs was built.

It was a big deal and the subject of much controversy when that corner was developed but even bigger news when the island had a McDonalds!
