It is so incredibly important that we pass on these traditions and skills to our little ones! Nothing warms my soul more than watching that smile from the first shot they were afraid to take, or seeing that glow in their eyes when they HIT ONE! In a time of our sport that has become so selfish and all about me, mine, and the kills, it's so great to have a weekend that we get back to why we do this!

This is what dreams are made of! (And at some very brief tiny moments, a few nightmares:)
All jokes aside, this is hands down my favorite and least favorite weekend of every year! I get to see exactly what we built this place for come to life over 3 days time! Fathers, and grandfathers get to enjoy a passion and tradition with their children and grandchildren! Smiles, a few tears, and a whole lot of laughter make this weekend the greatest part of my year! Watching these kids harvest their first birds, and doing it with their family is just incredible! They did such a great job this weekend, and with the help of a dear friend who I'd love to tell you about one day, we got the kids on some birds! The old pup and the young pup, gave us their best efforts and closed our season out right! Tomorrow the lodge will be quiet, and the side by sides will stay parked, and it will be a hard week for me! But hey, we are only around 287 days away from duck season...not that I'm counting...

Anyone got that one bird that no matter what, always finds a way to elude you!? Here is mine! Took me longer than I expected but finally got it checked off, and the old man got to retrieve it for me! The ole Apex loads helped me bring him down with one shot so he didn't get destroyed, and thanks to Drake Waterfowl Systems gear that let me beat the brutal cold today! Blessed!

Finally a post we agree with!

This mallard drake was photographed in a corn field in Missouri. There seems to be a lot of noise going on about that now. From my perspective, a loss of habitat of any kind is bad for waterfowl. I am one of the few that doesn’t have a problem with corn fields that hails from LA. I do have a problem with government overreach on private land though. If we ban corn, does rice go too? What about J*p Millet? What about fertilized moist soil? What about improved bottomland hardwood forests? Where exactly does the line get drawn? Does the act of adding water where it wouldn’t otherwise be constitute a form of baiting? I just fear that the powers that be will do all they can to remove access to ducks and duck hunting for us. There aren’t many hook and bullet biologists left to fight the fight for us on the inside. I’m concerned we are potentially opening Pandora’s box for the “leaders” of our wildlife.

I would love to see no row crops grown on public land though. I would love to NWRs and WMAs go to fully restoring the land they acquired in the name of conservation.

I am happy to discuss on this post but name calling, bullying or belittling folks won’t be tolerated by me. Let’s have a civil discussion where perhaps we can get a plan to take care of waterfowl not hunters the best we can.

Shuuuuuuweeeeee get the tissues these allergies are back again! So proud of this young man and his father! The boy put a pounding on his first ever duck, and got to experience a "father son duo kill" as he said proudly over and over after they took this pair! This is what it's about and why we built this! So happy for these two, and proud of Bear who gets yet another first duck ever retrieve memory for this fantastic family! Keep this stuff coming!
