🏡🤔 Who Actually Owns the Fence Between Two Properties?

It might seem like a simple question, but the answer isn't always as easy as “the house on this side owns it.”

A fence near a property line could:

📍 Belong entirely to one property owner
📍 Sit directly on the property line
📍 Be covered by an agreement between neighbors
📍 Not actually follow the legal property line at all

And no, which direction the “good side” of the fence faces doesn't automatically tell you who owns it!

Before replacing, removing, repairing, or assuming ownership of a shared or boundary fence, check your property records and any applicable local rules. If the exact property line is in question, a professional survey may be needed.
