Hurricane Season Preparations
We are still in the early weeks of Floridaโs hurricane season, but itโs never too soon to start preparing for a potential storm.
If youโve been in Florida when a hurricane is headed our way, you are familiar with the chaos that unfolds at local stores and gas stations. You will have enough to do with preparations at your home, so you shouldnโt have to worry about collecting supplies too.
I recommend putting together a hurricane preparedness kit NOW with items that are inexpensive and easy to find before the storm hits. Here are just a few suggestions of what you can start putting together now:
ยท Water โ at least one gallon of water per person per day
ยท Food โ minimum of a three-day supply of non-perishable food
ยท Extra batteries
ยท Flashlights
ยท First aid kit & medications
ยท Battery-powered or hand crank radio
ยท Hygiene towelettes
ยท Manual can opener for food
ยท Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery โ solar power chargers are very popular!
ยท Garbage bags and plastic ties
Planning and preparing can make a big difference in safety and resiliency in the wake of a hurricane. The ability to quickly recover following a hurricane requires a focus on preparedness, advance planning, and knowing what to do in the event of a hurricane.
