🤔 Did you know? :: Jupiter (Florida) wasn't named for the planet. The name actually comes from the British, who controlled the area from 1763 to 1783 after the Spanish ceded Florida to them. British leaders examined Spanish maps of the area and found they'd named the nearby river "Rio Jobe," presumably after the Native American Jobe tribe that resided there. According to an article by the Jupiter History Web Committee, the British had a tendency to Anglicize most of the words they found and changed "Jove" – the Roman name for Zeus – to their version called Jupiter.
