FYI Kalamzoo Homeowners 📣

You may have recently received a letter in the mail about optional sewer/septic service line coverage and wondered if it’s legitimate. It is, but the coverage is completely optional.

The City of Kalamazoo works with Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA) to make optional service line protection available to property owners. The letters are sent by SLWA and are not a bill or requirement from the City.

Why is this coverage offered? Property owners are generally responsible for the sewer service line that connects their home to the public sewer system. If that portion of the line becomes clogged, damaged, or needs to be replaced, the property owner may be responsible for the cost of repairs.

The optional SLWA program is one way homeowners can choose to protect themselves from some of those unexpected repair costs. You are not required to enroll, and you can simply disregard the letter if you are not interested in the coverage.

Receiving a letter also does not mean there is a known problem with your sewer service line. It is simply an offer for optional coverage available through the City's partnership with SLWA.
