Late-Night Guest! 🐻
Our security cameras caught a surprise visitor wandering through the yard right around 10:20 PM last night. As beautiful as it is to live alongside wildlife, seeing a bear this close to the porch is a solid reminder that fall is hyperphagia season—when bears are actively searching for extra calories before winter.
Here are a few quick Bear-Aware Tips to keep both your family and local wildlife safe:
Secure Attractants: Store garbage cans inside a garage or shed until the morning of pickup. Bears have an incredible sense of smell and will easily track down food scraps.
Clean Up Outdoor Dining Areas: If you BBQ or eat outside, make sure grills are cleaned thoroughly after use and no food crumbs are left on decks or outdoor tables.
Bring in Bird Feeders: Seed, suet, and nectar feeders are huge bear magnets. Take them down during active bear months or secure them high out of reach.
Keep Pets Safe & On-Leash: Always turn on outdoor lights and make a little noise before letting pets out at night. Keep dogs leashed or strictly supervised in yard areas.
Lock Doors & Lower Windows: Make sure ground-floor house doors, garage doors, and vehicle doors stay locked overnight.
