A true Kansas City classic đŸ’«

Winstead’s Steakburgers dates back to 1940 and was founded by Kathryn Winstead, She was one of first in the nation to adapt the drive-in diner idea. making Winstead’s in Kansas City one of the early drive-in style restaurants in the country!

Back then most restaurants were simple sit-down spots, no car service , no fast ordering, nothing like what we’re used to today. Winstead’s Steakburgers was part of a whole new wave of dining. This was a woman leading that kind of innovation during an era when that wasn’t common, how cool is that?

Women like Kathryn were quietly shaping the culture and growth of Kansas City in ways that still impact the city today.

In the 1950s, it went under new ownership, which was Kathryn’s sister Nellie Winstead Montgomery and brother-in-law Gordon Montgomery, they helped the restaurant into what we know today, they introduced fries, iconic milkshakes, and the famous “skyscraper” shake that became a local staple.
After years of building on the foundation Kathryn set, the Montgomerys eventually sold the restaurant in 1969 to brothers Morris and Victor Lerner, who were Polish immigrants that made their home and business in Kansas City. Before buying Winstead’s, the Lerner brothers ran King Louie International, a local company known for making bowling attire and operating bowling alleys. As bowling’s popularity eventually slowed, they shifted their focus and invested in Winstead’s, expanding with a couple of new locations in North Kansas City and Overland Park. Later, in 1982, the Lerners sold their company to an investment group, and not long after, local restauranteur Nabil Haddad took over Winstead’s ownership. Today the restaurant continues under the Haddad Restaurant Group, which still runs the remaining Winstead’s locations in the greater Kansas City area.

Winstead’s truly is a piece of living history in Kansas City 🌆

Stickman Steam Bao & Boba đŸ§‹đŸ„Ÿ

in Overland Park, Kansas has TANGHULU!! 🍓✹

Hands down the most unique item on their menu - 10/10 from me. It’s a traditional Asian snack made with fruit like grapes, strawberries, and mandarin oranges, coated in a perfectly crisp sugar shell.

They make it at just the right
temperature so it stays crunchy, juicy, and sooo satisfying. Which isn’t an easy task, trust me, I’ve tried plenty of times making it at home.

So If you haven’t tried tanghulu yet...this is your sign.
