Stopped into Tay’s Burger Shack in North Kansas City today for the double cheeseburger combo with fries. And here’s a detail worth knowing: they fry their fries in beef tallow.

Then they brought out free cake for National Cheeseburger Day. I came for a burger and apparently walked into a birthday party for cheeseburgers. I’m good with that. 😂

Kansas City, you need to know about this lamb burrito. 🌯

We stopped by Beirut Taco on West 39th Street, a Lebanese taqueria putting a completely different spin on tacos and burritos.

We ordered:

Lamb Hashwe Burrito 🌯
Braised leg of lamb, ground beef rice, garbanzo, avocado-tahini sauce, labneh-crema and pico de gallo.

Lamb Kamounia Tacos 🌮
Slow-braised lamb in a cumin-harissa-tomato sauce with cheese, onions, cilantro and consommé.

And this is exactly why I love West 39th Street. It’s one of the most interesting food areas in Kansas City, packed with independent restaurants, bars and neighborhood spots where you can find something you probably won’t see anywhere else in town.

Beirut Taco absolutely fits that mold.

Two totally different cravings. One stop. 👀

We hit Lenexa Public Market and went in completely different directions.

I grabbed the vermicelli noodle bowl from Saap Saap Noodles, loaded with fresh flavor and exactly the kind of meal that disappears way too fast.

Jessica went with the vegan platter from African Dream Cuisine, and honestly, this is what makes Lenexa Public Market such a great spot. You can show up wanting completely different things and both leave happy.

If you haven’t been in a while, add it back to the rotation.
