She got a lifetime order of protection. She moved. She started over in a brand new home.

Here's what most people don't know. When you buy a house, your name and your new address go straight into the public record: the deed, the tax records, all of it. Anyone can look it up.

Missouri has a program called Safe at Home that can keep a survivor's new address hidden. But there's a catch that can cost someone everything: it only protects records created AFTER they enroll. If they enroll a day after closing, it's already too late.

I asked a title closer and the Platte County Recorder exactly how to get this right, because one wrong step can put someone back in danger.

Helping with Lads and Lassies is so much fun, and being part of the parade planning is a joy and an honor. The kids, the floats, the smiles, the family traditions—I love having a little hand in something people look forward to every year.
Also, I love all things Irish and am always available for shenanigans. Finally, an appropriate use of my talents. 😂💚

I’m grateful for my police officer husband, Allen Johnson.
For more than 20 years, he’s served his community. I love his drive, his commitment to being a Kansas City police officer, and the heart he brings to keeping our city safe.
He’s also the backbone of our family. We count on him, and I love him more than I can reasonably explain in a Facebook post. You know I’d try. 😂
I get to love the man behind the badge, and I’m grateful every day that he’s mine.
