When you’re preparing for a move, paperwork probably isn’t the first thing you think about.

But knowing where your important documents are can make moving day, closing day and the weeks afterward much easier.

In my latest blog, I share a simple system for sorting paperwork into four categories:

Keep the Original | Keep for Now | Digitize | Shred

I also cover what should go into a “Do Not Pack” file, easy ways to scan documents with your phone, Kansas City-area resources for scanning and shredding, and the accounts and records you may need to update after your move.

Most importantly, you don’t have to organize years of paperwork all at once.

Start with one drawer, one file box or one small stack.
