✨Project Highlight | Jackson County Detention Center

Named Correctional News July Facility of the Month, this 455,000 SF, approximately $317 million, 1,000-bed facility replaces Jackson County’s aging and overcrowded detention center while bringing detention operations, behavioral health services, medical and dental care, and courtroom functions together on one modern campus.

Newmark Zimmer served as the local owner’s representative as part of JCDC Partners with CGL Companies. helping guide the progressive design-build project with from programing through occupancy with JE Dunn & Axiom Construction, DLR Group, and included Wellner Architects, Branch Pattern, Burns & McDonnell, Olsson, LINK, Custom Engineering and Professional Building Solutions.

The project reflects a modern approach to justice infrastructure by balancing safety, operational efficiency and security with behavioral health, staff wellness and a more human-centered direct supervision environment. The facility opened slightly ahead of schedule and under budget, highlighting the impact of early collaboration and coordination across the project team.

We’re proud to have played a role in delivering a facility designed to serve Jackson County and the Kansas City community for decades to come!
