FIFA is coming!! Some helpful information navigating heavier than normal traffic.⚽️⚽️⚽️
As Kansas City prepares to serve as a host city for the FIFA World Cup, MoDOT advises drivers to plan ahead for increased traffic across the state.
Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to travel through Missouri during the tournament. While the greatest impacts will occur in and around Kansas City, drivers statewide may experience heavier-than-usual traffic as visitors move between lodging, event venues and tourist destinations.
Kansas City will serve as a Host City for six matches in Arrowhead Stadium, renamed as Kansas City Stadium for the duration of the tournament. Those traveling in the area should be mindful of the following match dates and plan their routes accordingly:
Tuesday, June 16 at 8 p.m.
Saturday, June 20 at 7 p.m.
Thursday, June 25 at 6 p.m.
Saturday, June 27 at 9 p.m.
Friday, July 3 at 8:30 p.m.
Saturday, July 11 at 8 p.m.
FIFA Fan Festival™ Kansas City events will also be hosted at the National WWI Museum and Memorial between June 11 and July 11.
Traffic may be elevated throughout Missouri as visitors move between cities and event sites. Adjusting travel patterns can help reduce delays so MoDOT has taken steps to keep motorists moving during this historic event. Nearly all state roadwork in the Kansas City region will take place off the roadway during the tournament, maximizing available capacity on major routes. Local employers are encouraged to alter work and travel schedules around match days and other events to help ease congestion and support efficient traffic flow.
Rail travelers can also expect increased demand for tickets. Fortunately, additional capacity will be available on the Missouri River Runner between June 14 and July 12 to help accommodate increased demand.
MoDOT will continue using all available communication channels to coordinate messaging and provide motorists with timely information on potential travel impacts, preferred routes and any other updates that would help people make safer travel decisions. Traffic conditions can change in an instant, so follow MoDOT on Facebook and X for timely updates and check the Traveler Information Map online or via mobile app to plan your route around work zones.
If your fan festivities involve alcohol or ma*****na, be sure to also plan for a sober ride. The ConnectKC26 transportation plan will guide attendees through designated parking hubs and dedicated bus routes to and from the stadium, Kansas City International Airport, FIFA Fan Festival™ and other key locations across the region. Complete details and updates are available on the FIFA World Cup 26™ Kansas City website.
