These two photos tell the story of the Aiden Hotel. What began as an active construction site is now a thoughtfully reimagined destination in the heart of downtown Kansas City.

Hunter Farrell has been part of the project from the very beginning, helping bring this adaptive reuse project to life. We can't wait to see the doors officially open on September 8th and celebrate this building's next chapter.

Not every building looks like potential at first. That’s exactly the point.

Worn finishes, exposed structure and outdated spaces rarely photograph like the final vision. Adaptive reuse begins by looking beyond what is immediately visible, and identifying what has value, what should be preserved and where thoughtful intervention can create the greatest impact.

We don't just see a building as it stands today. We see what it could become.

As 929 Walnut moves closer to its grand opening, the details are beginning to tell the full story.

Original brick, richly veined stone, Art Deco-inspired patterns and thoughtfully layered finishes connect the building’s historic character with a new residential experience. Even the smallest elements were considered to ensure the transformation feels elevated, cohesive and true to the architecture that came before it.

The doors will open soon and we’re looking forward to sharing more of this remarkable downtown revitalization.

Some buildings don't just occupy space. They carry history.

Before 1301 Oak became the Aiden Hotel, the 1919 Mutual Building was home to Mutual Bank and even played a small part in the early story of Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. This bank-era detail, preserved before revitalization began, is just one reminder of the craftsmanship and history that have shaped the building for more than a century.

When we reimagined the building as an 84-room boutique hotel, the goal wasn't to erase its past. It was to preserve its character while creating a new chapter for one of downtown Kansas City's historic landmarks.
