Part-Time Maintenance Technician
Interns and Free Lance Workers, are welcome to apply

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — We are looking for a reliable, skilled maintenance technician to perform essential upkeep tasks throughout our facility. In this position, you will be responsible for a wide variety of activities such as repairs and cleaning to ensure that our facilities are both tidy and functional. Being reliable and self-motivated with a keen eye for detail is essential in this job, as the ideal candidate will have significant work experience and solid technical knowledge.
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine building maintenance tasks. Performance of building maintenance tasks in one or more fields (ie carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, etc.). Performs general cleaning and other tasks as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Paint, remodel, refurbish areas as needed (Make Readies)
• Repair, maintain/monitor all equipment and amenities
• Clean windows and glass doors
• Prepare conference rooms for scheduled meetings; remove or rearrange furniture for events or classes, as needed
• Remove and properly dispose of all recyclable materials
• Change light bulbs, interior, and exterior, as needed
• On-call maintenance for all facilities, 24/7
• Oversee service that provides trash removal and cleaning of offices
• Acts as the main point of contact for mowing and snow removal service companies
• Oversee daily trash removal, restocking/cleaning restrooms, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming, cleaning/disinfecting tables and counters, cleaning exterior entryway, cleaning/disinfecting community surfaces (handrails, water fountains, etc)
•Lawncare and Mowing
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned
• Must be able to work flexible hours
SALARY
Competitive with Apartment Industry $18.00 per hr to start HV/AC Experience $25.00 per hr
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High school education or equivalent
• At least 5 years of working experience in facilities maintenance
• Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills; customer service oriented
• Must be organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-task
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A strong desire to be a part of a dynamic team.
• Integrity to always do the right thing with a strong moral compass and the ability to speak up on important matters, no matter how difficult. Have a good sense of humor.
• Know what it means to roll up your sleeves and make things happen.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record as determined by the organization.
• Must have reliable transportation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to push/lift 75 pounds
• Ability to climb ladders
• Bending at the waist, sitting, kneeling, climbing, walking, crouching as the job may require
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures
• Working in high noise levels requiring hearing protection
• Working around lubricants, solvents, batteries, cleaning fluids, paints

• Normal office environment combined with normal outdoor exposures.

The City has installed GPS tracking systems that capture and report activity for City snowplows throughout the City in real-time.

In the event that the city declares a "Snow Emergency"
What is a snow emergency?
In the event of severe snow, the City Manager may declare a Phase 1 or Phase 2 snow emergency (see ice and snow policy).

Phase 1 identifies a driving emergency, in which driving is prohibited for vehicles without snow tires or tire chains.
Phase 2 identifies a parking emergency, during which any vehicle parked on a snow route must be removed within two hours.
Citations can be issued to motorists who do not heed emergency conditions.
Parking during snowstorms:
When it snows, residents may be asked to park vehicles off-street when snow depths exceed two inches. Parking cars off-street greatly helps plows to better remove snow, especially in cul-de-sacs and dead-end streets. If a vehicle must park on-street, we request the following parking practice:

On streets that run north/south, park vehicles on the west side of the street.
On streets that run east/west, park vehicles on the north side of the street.

Kansas City and its surrounding counties will be subject to a stay-at-home order effective Tuesday morning in an effort to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, Mayor Quinton Lucas announced Saturday.

The order, which will go into effect 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, requires residents of Kansas City, Johnson County, Jackson County, and Wyandotte County to remain at home except for activities “essential to the health and safety” of themselves, family members or friends.

After 30 days, the jurisdictions will consider whether to extend the order.

Trips to grocery stores, pharmacies, hardware stores, doctor's offices, dry cleaners, laundromats, and banks will be permitted.

Weddings, funerals, and wakes cannot be held and other “non-essential business and other non-essential operations must cease.”

The order makes Kansas City the latest in a rapidly expanding list of states and localities that have placed life-as-usual on hold in an attempt to blunt the spread of the COVID-19 virus that has infected more than 24,000 Americans and killed more than 200. In St. Louis, officials issued a similar order for St. Louis County and St. Louis City Saturday.

The states of California, Illinois, and New York have all ordered its residents to stay home.

It comes as the area continues to see rising numbers of cases despite measures taken to prevent large gatherings, limit restaurants to take out service only and encourage residents to practice social distancing to stop the spread of COVID-19.
