They started out looking in Brookside. They ended up 35 minutes north, with a true ranch. 🔑

When these buyers first came to me, they were new to Kansas City and wanted a fun, family-friendly neighborhood close to the city. As they got to know the metro, they began to wonder how much more space their budget could buy. So we explored Kansas City in every direction: north, south, east, and west.

They landed in the Northland, and the home was worth the search: a beautifully updated true ranch with three bedrooms on the main level, a finished lower level with a fourth bedroom and a full bath, and a kitchen that's the heart of the home. Out back is a fully fenced yard with a pergola, steps from Tiffany Greens Golf Course.

The move also puts them closer to the new KC airport, and still within 20 minutes of plenty going on around the city. That's the value of working with someone who knows the whole metro, not just one neighborhood.

National Fire Prevention Week — and as someone whose whole job involves homes, I take this one seriously every year. 🏡

Three simple things worth doing this weekend:

1. Test every smoke detector in your home — bedrooms, hallways, basement. Anything over 10 years old gets replaced, no exceptions.

2. Check your dryer vent and lint trap. The most common cause of house fires and the most overlooked item on every homeowner's list.

3. Walk through an exit plan with your whole household — every room, every scenario, every person who lives there.

Fifteen minutes now is worth a lot later.
