This is for my friends who live in Platte County in the Kansas City metro. There is a new Homestead Tax Credit Program for Platte County residents only. And for those people not receiving the senior property tax credit already. (If you’re 62 or older this year and live anywhere in Missouri, you qualify for the senior property tax credit, but you have to enroll in the program. See your county assessor website for details.) This new Homestead Tax Credit Program caps property tax increases at 5% a year for Platte County residents. You don’t qualify if your house address is not your primary residence, or if your house is listed as a short term rental. It also doesn’t apply to commercial properties. If you’re already signed up for the senior property tax credit program, apparently that one is more beneficial and you’re already set. To double check that your property was automatically enrolled in the Homestead Tax Program, there’s a nice short video on the county assessor’s website that explains how to go on the site and look for the blue dot and see what credit you have for your property. The appeal process is pretty simple, but must be done by Sept. 11. Hope this helps someone. See details at https://www.co.platte.mo.us/homestead.
