First: make sure you're working with a fiduciary. As a Certified Financial Planner, Jason is held to a fiduciary obligation to put the client's interest first — and as he put it, he can actually "lose my credentialing" if the CFP board finds he's violated that standard. That's real accountability. Second: work with someone you genuinely trust and like. This week on the BNI Westside Member Spotlight, meet Jason W. Ceyanes, Sr. of Encompass Advisory Services .

Here's something you might not guess about your financial advisor: Jason spent 18 years in public education first — including five years as a small school superintendent, with a PhD in educational administration from Texas A&M. In his own words, he "just kind of got burned out with the politics of public education" and knew he needed a change. He'd always been drawn to the stock market and investing, so he "naturally kind of gravitated towards that." About 14 years later, he's now the majority owner and top producer at Encompass.

That teacher's heart never left him, though — and it shows up in how he treats his clients. We'll get into that all week.
